Who this list is for

Topics about work, careers and motivation: is the dream job a myth, business of your own or employment, money or meaning. The list helps you voice an opinion about work in interviews, at networking events and with colleagues.

A common mistake

Answering β€œon the one hand, on the other hand” and never choosing. Listeners want a position. You can admit the question is complex, but say what you think in the first sentence anyway.

Sample answer

Does money really motivate people?

Money motivates, but not for long. A raise feels great for a couple of months, then the new salary becomes normal. It happened to me twice: after a raise I worked with energy, and six months later I was looking for more interesting work again. So for me money is a condition, and what motivates me is the work itself.

Questions about this list

Do I need a strong opinion on every topic?

No, but you need to pick one for the length of the answer. That’s the skill: taking a position in a couple of seconds.

Can I use personal examples?

Yes, it’s the best way to make an answer come alive. One short story persuades more than general reasoning.

Where will these topics help?

In interviews, in small talk at conferences and in career conversations with your manager.

How a session works

  1. Spin the wheelYou get a random topic from this list β€” like a question you didn't prepare for.
  2. Speak for a minuteLammy turns speech into text. The coach counts fillers, pauses and pace and checks your structure.
  3. Second takeGet one task and say it again. Your second take almost always scores higher.
